A column key: data.<name> for a data column, results.<run>.<field> for a run's result.

The part after the root is the column's name LITERALLY, never an expression: a column named shared chapters or a.b has the path data.shared chapters or data.a.b. Wherever a path is taken as a path (a selector's path, a filter) it reads that column. To put one INSIDE an expression, pass it through quotePath first, which quotes every segment that needs it.
