Type Alias: EncodingRefusalCode

EncodingRefusalCode = "E_UNSUPPORTED" | "E_CAP_EXCEEDED" | string & object

Defined in: graphty-element/src/session/styles/EncodingSpec.ts:165

Why a column cannot be drawn on a channel by default, as the code of a CodedFact. Every refusal carries kind, name and channel in its params, and:

  • "E_UNSUPPORTED" -- the element has no default drawing for what the column measures on this channel: groups on a size, amounts on a shape, or a time column on any channel. Params add measurement, null for a column with no values.
  • "E_CAP_EXCEEDED" -- a categorical column has more distinct values than the attribute walk counts, so it cannot be colored one value at a time. Params add limit, the count (256).

Params are strings, numbers or null. Naming a scale skips every refusal: it is written as asked.

OPEN UNION: codes may be added in a minor release.
